Howell memorial fund to provide playground for Cambodian children

On Monday, Dec 29, 2008, Dan Howell and his family presented People for Care & Learning President Dr. Fred Garmon and board member Linda Staton a check for more than $8,000 to benefit the projects of the organization. People for Care & Learning (PCL), is a locally-based, international non-governmental organization dedicated to benevolently serve the world’s poor.

The funds were raised in honor of Dan's wife, Carol Howell, who passed away in 2008. Carol was a faithful partner of People for Care & Learning and supported its work in Cambodia.  She deeply loved the children of that country, and the funds donated by her family and friends will be used to construct a playground in Carol's honor in the city of Siem Reap, Cambodia.

"My sons and I are very grateful for the generous support of Carol's friends and family in making this memorial playground a reality. Carol's mission trip to Cambodia made a lasting impression on the entire family,” Howell said.  “It was clear to us that she left a part of her heart there with the Cambodian children.

Carol was a person who loved to laugh and enjoy life. We can think of no more fitting memorial than a playground [built] in her honor, where the laughter of children will be heard."

“I traveled with Carol to Cambodia on her first Insight – Awareness Tour and observed first-hand both the personal joy she experienced and the happiness she generated in the lives of the Cambodian people she came in contact with; especially the children,” said Fred Garmon, president of People for Care & Learning. “Carol was a beautiful person that enjoyed the experience of giving back, and a playground built in her honor will be a fitting and lasting memorial that she would be proud of.”

In addition to the Carol Howell Memorial Playground in Cambodia, People for Care & Learning is currently working in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity’s Century Village and the Cleveland Greenway project to sponsor two playgrounds in Cleveland to benefit the community’s children.
